All I could do is smile this past Wednesday night as Bay Bridge gridlock ate into the gig time for Brian, John, Justin and me at Cato's Ale House in Oakland. At 6:00 Justin and I began playing duets. (hearing his new Walter Wood bass amp was a pleasure). John got through the traffic and arrived around 6:30 so we went into trio format and at 7:00 Brian made it in after 2-1/2 hours in the car on a route that normally takes 45 minutes. So we got into quartet format well into the second set. Despite it all, the Cato's crowd was appreciative as usual (they are always very kind to us) and my friend Eric was present for a while (thanks Eric!) and thanks to Suurb for being there last month at Cato's , too. This week we mixed it up by bringing in "Birk's Works" and recently we've been playing "In Walked Bud", too. Oh, and thanks to the cat (I didn't catch his name) who talked with me after the show about Matthew Shipp. I'm going to check out the music.

On Sunday the 29th at Park Chalet, Khalil Doak-Anthony sat in on bass with us. Always a pleasure.
